However, his bullet-riddled body was found through a third-floor window, 133ft away from the window of the first floor where another man was killed. The window had a dent after the incident and the police are yet to find out how it was caused.
Gulzar Lone, who lives opposite the building and saw the shootout from his window, told AFP that the slain militant was with three others in a room near the window. He said one of them was holding his hands over his head and another was bringing up the rear. He said there were two men in front and another in the back.
Lone, who lives near the spot where the body was found, claimed the forces started firing at the men when they saw them "open the door and they opened fire". This left two men dead - the third is still missing.
Police Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Mohammad Mavani, said there was "mentioning of one person" in the incident by the deceased that "indicated that he is physically challenged and can only move with the support of other people".
He said, "I know that everyone has its own capabilities and desire for good things to happen. We have to make the infrastructure, but must understand what is human rights and how much it is needed. This is very important in our country. Nationalism is important to us but so is humanism. I want everyone to be completely confident because nothing can be done without the nation.''
